Plant 40,000 Trees In Northern Rwanda

Dear patron,

This progress report provides an update on the recent planting activities undertaken by RWYDAVO. The focus of this report is on the eucalyptus, grevillea, and citron saplings that were planted. We are pleased to report that the germination of the eucalyptus planted recently has been successful, and around 30,000 saplings will be available to be planted  between October and November 2024.

 Eucalyptus Planting

• Germination Status of 30,000 saplings: The eucalyptus seeds have exhibited a high germination rate. Most seeds have sprouted within the expected timeframe, indicating that the soil and environmental conditions are favorable.
• Current Condition: The germinated eucalyptus saplings are showing strong, healthy growth. They are well-established and have reached a height of approximately 7-12cm.
• Next Steps: Continued monitoring and maintenance will be essential. Regular watering and weeding are recommended to support the saplings' growth. We will also be assessing the need for any pest control measures as the saplings mature.

Grevillea Saplings

• Current Condition: The grevillea saplings are in good condition. They have adapted well to the planting environment and are showing vigorous growth. Leaf development is robust, and the plants are demonstrating resilience to the local conditions (See attached photos).
• Maintenance: Routine watering and periodic fertilization have been effective in promoting healthy growth. No major pest or disease issues have been reported so far.

Citron Saplings

• Current Condition: The citron saplings are also in excellent condition. They are growing steadily and are showing healthy foliage. The plants are currently about 10-15 cm tall and have established strong root systems.
• Maintenance: Regular care, including appropriate watering and soil management, has contributed to their positive development. There have been no significant issues with pests or diseases at this stage.

Monitoring:

• Ongoing Monitoring: Continue regular monitoring of all saplings, particularly for water needs and pest control.
• Soil Management: Ensure the soil remains well-aerated and enriched with necessary nutrients.
• Community Involvement: Engage local communities in the maintenance and monitoring processes to foster a sense of ownership and ensure long-term success.

Conclusion

The planting initiatives undertaken by RWYDAVO are progressing well. The successful germination of eucalyptus seeds and the healthy growth of grevillea and citron saplings highlight the effectiveness of the current practices. Continued support and diligent care will be essential to maintain and enhance the progress made thus far.
