Project Report | Dec 16, 2025
Approximately 23,000 Healthy Saplings Raised.

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patron,

Nursery Milestone: Approximately 23,000 Healthy Saplings Raised and Ready for Transplantation

We are pleased to share a comprehensive update on our 50,000 Trees Planting Project in Rulindo District, Rwanda. Thanks to your continued generosity and partnership, we have successfully completed a major nursery phase, with approximately 22,500–23,000 healthy saplings fully raised and currently under shade management, ready for transplantation.

 Nursery Location

Our tree nursery is located in Burega Sector, near Buyoga Sector, Rulindo District.
Exact coordinates:

  • Latitude: -1.7102845
  • Longitude: 30.0274603
  • Plus Code: 72QG+VXP, Buyoga

This strategic location ensures reliable access to water, proximity to participating communities, and efficient transport to the initial planting site. For transparency, the first photo shared includes a Google Maps pin showing the precise nursery location.

 Clarification on the 5 Hectares

The 5 hectares previously referenced represent the first phase of our overall planting plan. This initial plot is where saplings from the nursery will be transplanted. Land preparation for this phase is already underway and serves as a strong foundation toward our long-term goal of planting 50,000 trees across multiple phases.

Nursery Sapling Completion & Verified Count

Visual assessment confirms full completion of this nursery cycle.

Nursery Layout:

  • 6 columns (left to right)
  • 4 rows (front to back)
     Total visible seedbeds: 6 × 4 = 24

Saplings per Seedbed:

  • Seedlings are grown in polybags, arranged tightly and uniformly
  • Standard forestry practices ensure healthy growth
  • Each seedbed typically contains 900–1,000 saplings

Conservative Average Applied: 950 saplings per seedbed

Final Verified Estimate:
24 seedbeds × 950 saplings = 22,800 saplings

Confirmed Output: Approximately 22,500–23,000 healthy saplings, fully maintained under shade and ready for transplantation.

 Photo Descriptions

  1. Nursery Location Pin – Google Maps
The first image shows the exact nursery location for verification of project activities.
  2. Community Members Caring for Seedlings
The second image demonstrates daily nursery operations, including:
    • Watering seedlings arranged in neat rows
    • Tending saplings in nursery bags
    • Shade structures protecting young plants from excessive sunlight

These images reflect strong community involvement, careful management, and shared responsibility behind each sapling.

 Nursery Progress & Ongoing Activities

  • 22,500–23,000 saplings have been fully raised
  • Volunteers and youth provide daily watering, shading, and routine maintenance
  • Nursery proximity to the 5-hectare planting site enables efficient transport
  • Schools and community groups participate in nursery care and upcoming planting activities

We remain committed to continued land preparation, seedling management, community mobilization, and environmental education as core components of this project.

 Why This Project Matters

Starting with the first 5 hectares and moving toward 50,000 trees, this initiative will:

  • Restore soil fertility and reduce erosion
  • Create future income opportunities through woodlots
  • Strengthen climate resilience in the region
  • Promote community volunteerism and unity
  • Inspire environmental awareness and education among youth

This nursery represents a critical step toward long-term environmental restoration and sustainable community development in Burega and Buyoga.

We are deeply grateful for your support. Your generosity is already creating visible and measurable impact on the ground. As we continue this important work, your partnership remains essential.

We kindly invite you to consider making an additional donation or setting up a monthly recurring contribution to support this important project. Every contribution brings us closer to restoring Rwanda’s forests and improving the environment for communities.

With sincere gratitude,

Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
President, RWAYDAVO
