Tree Nursery Progress Update - Rulindo District

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patron,

We are pleased to present a clean and concise update regarding the current status of the tree nursery supporting our reforestation program in Rulindo District.

1. Nursery Location

The nursery is located in:

Burega Sector, near Buyoga Sector
Rulindo District, Rwanda

Coordinates:
Latitude: -1.7102845
Longitude: 30.0274603
Plus Code: 72QG+VXP, Buyoga

2. Current Nursery Status

The nursery currently contains approximately 22,500–23,000 saplings.

We are pleased to report that:

  • The saplings have grown well and have reached the stage for transplanting.

  • Growth is uniform and healthy, with strong stems and well-developed leaves.

  • Root systems are sufficiently established to support successful field planting.

  • The nursery beds are clean, organized, and properly maintained.

The saplings are now ready to be planted.

3. Maintenance Activities Completed

All required nursery maintenance activities have been successfully carried out, including:

  • Complete manual weeding (roots removed)

  • Proper spacing and sorting of saplings

  • Removal of weak or unhealthy plants

  • Soil loosening to improve aeration

  • Application of organic matter to enrich soil fertility

  • Regular watering with proper drainage control

  • Ongoing monitoring for pests and diseases

No herbicides were used, ensuring environmentally safe nursery management.

4. Next Phase: Land Preparation

We are pleased to inform you that land preparation activities for planting will begin next week.
These activities will include site clearing, digging planting holes, and preparing the land to ensure successful transplantation of the saplings.

Progress reports and updates will be shared regularly as the planting activities commence.

5. Conclusion

The nursery is in excellent condition, and the saplings are fully prepared for transplantation. We are now entering the field preparation stage and are ready to proceed with the planting phase to support environmental restoration efforts in Rulindo District.

We sincerely thank you for your continued support and partnership in advancing sustainable reforestation initiatives.

With appreciation,

Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
President, RWAYDAVO
