Buyoga Tree Planting Preparation Report

By Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana | Project Leader

Dear Patrons,

We are pleased to share a brief report on the preparatory activities undertaken for the eucalyptus tree planting project in Buyoga, Rwanda.

zThe project site is located at 72HH+PCP Buyoga, Rwanda, covering a total area of 1.5 hectares. The purpose of these activities is to ensure that the land is properly prepared to support successful tree planting, survival, and long-term environmental restoration.

Prior to planting, key activities were completed, including land clearing and digging of planting holes. The site was initially covered with grasses, shrubs, and dense vegetation, which were manually cleared using appropriate hand tools. This process improved accessibility and reduced competition for nutrients. Following this, planting holes were systematically dug across the site, maintaining an approximate spacing of 3 meters by 3 meters. The layout was carefully adapted to the slope of the land to help minimize soil erosion and support water retention.

Based on the selected spacing and total land size, it is estimated that approximately 1,650 eucalyptus trees will be planted across the 1.5 hectares. All work was carried out using manual labor due to the hilly terrain, with tools such as hoes, machetes, and digging equipment. A basic contour-based approach was applied to further reduce the risk of soil erosion.

Observations from the site indicate that the land is well prepared, with suitable soil conditions for eucalyptus cultivation. All preparatory activities have been successfully completed, and the site is fully ready for planting.

Tree planting is scheduled to commence on May 2, 2026. The next steps will include planting the seedlings, applying organic manure where available, watering and mulching, and ensuring proper protection and monitoring of the young trees.

In conclusion, the land preparation phase has been completed successfully, and the project is now ready to transition into the planting phase under favorable conditions.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support and partnership in this environmental restoration initiative.

Sincerely,

RWAYDAVO President

Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
