Everything is Connected

By Jessica Knierim | Development Associate

While we continue to care for the trees you have helped us plant and grow in the Cardamom Rainforest Landscape, we would like you to take a moment to watch our powerful video on the rangers who protect the same forest. These silent heroes work in rugged terrain and extreme weather conditions to preserve one of the Earth’s last great rainforests.

The long and hard hours of the Wildlife Alliance workforce appear to be paying off. From 37 elephants and 12 tigers killed in just a few months fifteen years ago and a thousand acres of forest going up in flames every month for land grabbing, rangers have achieved zero elephant poaching since 2006 and the Cambodian government recently committed to an ambitious program to reintroduce tigers.

The Cardamom Protection Program forest rangers have successfully removed 155,494 snares from the forest floor, rescued 4,769 wild animals from poachers, seized 14,392 chainsaws used for illegal deforestation, and avoided bulldozing of 693,835 ha (1,714,000 acres) from commercial plantations and mining. With a mission to combat deforestation, biodiversity loss, climate change, and poverty by partnering with local communities and governments, Wildlife Alliance relies heavily on the courage and dedication of our ranger teams.

Thank you for helping us bring life back to areas of this landscape that have been defroested and thank you for taking the time to appreciate the work our rangers do to prevent any more deforestation.
