It in indeed difficult to keep our Orphan Programme going...but we feel that after 30 years we just must keep going despite obstacles! .The state of the economy is the BIG one ,but so far we still manage to keep our children at school and hopefully this will continue. Families struggle but the Guardians of the Orphans still turn up to Training despite the difficulties of this year, the children still manage to get to school despite the collapse of their homes in cyclone Feddie ( last march), the destruction of the crops in the same cyclone and the ensuing hunger. The resilience of this community is inspiring...they never lose Hope and so neither will we!
So life went on....the guardians attended their permaculture workshops, brought indigenous seeds to be cultivated at the Likulezi nursery and helped to grow tree the seedlings for their villages. Likulezi managed to give some input of various vegetable seeds and despite not being in a position to give fertilizer the guardians did their best to make compost. They also attended meetings held for them and by them...having walked up to 30 klms to get there.
The Orphans at primary school got their uniforms which are invaluable as a set of clothes anyway. Those at Secondary schools came to the Library to take advantage of the school curriculum books housed there and also to play chess. Now they are up to competition level and you never know !
Our 3rd Levels students are forging ahead and hope to make their own business;s, we hope to have a Medic in the near future with our medical girl...so all is good!
These children are the Beacon of Hope in a poor community.......having inherited this HOPE from their resilient foerbears!
