Likulezi has been struggling...WHY?......because of the Hunger crisis in Malawi ! This is due to last year's cyclone Freddie and subsequent flooding and then on top of this...the drought of this year 2024...with little or no government assistance to releive the situation. For this reason we as a project decided to use our remaining crisis fund to buy flour for 2 consecutive months for our Orphan families and volunteers in the hope of relieving the situation untill either the government or international NGO'S stepped in. Unfortunately this was a vain hope and so the crisis is ongoing with the hoped for harvest not due until march /April 2025!
Notwithstanding this situation, the project continued as best it could.Trainings for Orphans and guardians continued on Permaculture, Agriculture,HIV/AIDS and Orphan Care. Both Orphans and vulnerable children supported by Likulezi went to school, although some decamped to Mozambique in search of food and some girl students became pregnant in their desperate search for food support (23 in secondary school,12 in primary school, 3 in Technical college, 1 in University and 1 in Medical school).
