Hello fellow fruit tree friends,
We are excited to share an upcoming tree planting and orchard event happening this month.
On the 23 of January 2023, FTPF will join our newest partners, Brighton Permaculture Trust, to plant 20 young walnut trees as part of an expansion of the Racehill Community Orchard in Brighton, East Sussex.
This will be our first official project in the UK and the launch of our efforts to support, grow and create community orchards in Britain. We would therefore like to invite local supporters to join us onsite to put these beautiful new trees into the ground.
Racehill Community Orchard was started in 2013 and now holds over 200 fruit trees serving the largely low-income community of Whitehawk in Brighton. The community itself has been very involved since the initial planning stages and continues to care for the orchard through work parties and harvest days, with ongoing support from Brighton Permaculture Trust. The addition of walnut trees, which thrive in the area's chalky soils, will add variety to the food and biodiversity of the orchard for decades to come.
Please see the link below to register for the event and find out more. We hope to see you there!
