By GBELE-GUEWE Djobo Ousmane | COORDINATOR

I - MID-TERM REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE 2025 DRILLING PROJECT (FROM PROJECT LAUNCH TO BOREHOLE WATER ANALYSIS)

INTRODUCTION

The implementation of the activities of the project "Improving access to water for the communities of Tchébidè, Kparatao and Kpangalam - Château in the Prefecture of Tchaoudjoet Kominidè in the Prefecture of Tchamba" began with the awareness-raising stage of the beneficiary communities on January 7 and 8, 2025. It is implemented by the NGO CAV with the financial support of the COCHRAN Family based in the USA through GlobalGiving.

This report summarizes all activities carried out from January 7 to February 12, 2025.

The following activities were carried out during this period:

-       Raising awareness among the population about the project and setting up drilling sites ;

-       Carrying out geophysical studies;

-       Drilling wells;

-       Water pumping and analysis

-       Monitoring of project activities.

PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES

1. Raising awareness among the population about the project and establishing drilling sites:

The awareness-raising sessions took place on January 7 and 8, 2025 in the 4 localities benefiting from the drilling project for the year 2025.

During these awareness sessions, the beneficiaries were provided with information on their responsibilities to now take charge of the management and maintenance of the works to be built.

An area of at least a quarter of a hectare was selected by each community for geophysical studies. This selected area is that belonging to the entire community or area donated by the community or landowners with proof of ownership of the site.

2. Geophysical studies:

Geophysical studies took place in the beneficiary communities from January 11 to 14, 2025.

These studies revealed the existence of abundant water tables between 80 and 180 meters deep

3. Drilling , Development and Equipment of Drilling

Drilling and development work was successfully carried out at the 4 project sites from January 16 to 19, 2025.

4. Pumping and physicochemical and microbiological analyses of borehole water:

The pumping of the boreholes was carried out two (2) weeks after the drilling stage. It took place from February 5 to 10, 2025 and consisted of:

-  Measure the flow rate of the borehole;

- Determine the variation in its production at different flow rates;

- Quantify aquifer characteristics, including permeability coefficient and water storage capacity.

At the end of the pumping, water samples were taken for physicochemical and bacteriological analyses at the laboratory, at the Regional Directorate of Hygiene and Sanitation. The analyses were carried out from February 5 to 11, 2025.

The results of the analyses were therefore deemed satisfactory and fully meet WHO (World Health Organization) standards.

5. Coordination and monitoring of project activities.

Follow-ups were carried out by the project team. This team is composed of the Coordinator, the Accountant and the Cashier of the NGO. Monitoring tours of drilling work were organized during geophysical studies, drilling and water pumping work. Telephone, email and Whatsapp contacts were exchanged between the project team, the company and the person responsible for technical monitoring of the project.

II - NEXT STEPS:

The activities to be carried out from February 20, 2025 are as follows:

-       Construction of the superstructures of the 2 human-powered drillings;

-       Construction of water towers that will support the polytanks and solar panels;

-       Supply of equipment and installation of mechanical and photovoltaic power supply systems;

-       Support for the establishment of Water Committees, responsible for monitoring and managing drilling;

-       Training of Water Committees on the maintenance and sustainable management of boreholes;

-       Technical and provisional reception of works;

-       Final acceptance of works;

-       Monitoring and supervision of project activities.
