Because of the spread of the corona virus, 1.3 Malians are facing severe food insecurity during the lean months of the rainy season. The number of hungry families is rising steadily as the crisis deepens. Mali needs continued aid from the international community to improve food access for households living in poverty. The Alliance is raising $6000 to respond to the immediate need of these families. The money raised will be used to supply food relief for the most vulnerable village families.
As COVID-19 spreads throughout Mali, there is growing anxiety about potentially dire consequences of the virus on vulnerable communities. The country already faces a crippled health system after years of conflict, instability, and poverty. Because of coronavirus 1.3 Malians are facing severe food insecurity during the lean months of the rainy season. Mali needs continued aid to improve food access to households living in poverty.
COVID-19 relief program will be part of the OA's nurturing nutrition program and raise money to directly and immediately provide food relief for families in our 25 partnered villages. The Alliance works with health workers to determine those in need and will distribute bags of millet or corn to these families between July-September.
26% of Malians already face acute malnutrition and now due to the impact of COVID-19 those most vulnerable in our villages are facing starvation. Providing food relief during the lean months for these villagers will have a lasting, long term impact of life! This program will feed up to 2000 villagers that are facing the affects of malnutrition and starvation due to the lean months and gap period in Mali.
