Project update - thank you!

By Karyn Mikkelsen-Tillet | Director Global Partnerships & Communication

Dear supporter of youth access to quality education,

Sharing with you an update to let you know that your past support has contributed to unlocking the potential of underprivileged youths by empowering them with an innovative approach in key digital and soft employability skills in Cambodia. Our goal is that each student finds a quality job aligned with local tech market needs, allowing them and their families to escape poverty in a sustainable way and contribute to the social and economic development of their country.

Cambodian context:

In Cambodia, 77% of the population lives in rural areas, where financial difficulties significantly impact access to education. The gross enrollment rate in high school is 60%, but for higher education, it drops to just 17.9%. Since secondary education generally involves costs, many young Cambodians, especially in rural areas, are forced to drop out. Despite some progress, with the gross enrollment rate in higher education rising from 9.9% in 2013-2014 to 17.9% in 2022-2023, financial barriers remain a major challenge. In 2023, 20.5% of the employed population lived on less than $2.15 per day, further limiting educational opportunities.

PASSERELLES NUMERIQUES CAMBODIA (PNC):

GRADUATION & EMPLOYMENT

In 2024, PNC Generation 2023 entered the job market after successfully completing their internships and finishing their training program in November 2023. We are incredibly proud to have partnered with 21 companies to offer 74 students four-month internship opportunities, allowing them to apply their skills in System & Network Administration or Web Development.

In November and December of 2024, the 75 students of PNC Generation 2024 completed their final four-month internships with 35 company partners. These graduates are now fully prepared to enter the job market as junior Web Developers after receiving hands-on training. Our recent graduates will continue to receive support from their trainers, who will assist them in finding the right position and guide them into their careers in the couple months ahead.

75 students graduated

92% of students found employment in the IT sector less than 3 months after graduation - 100% after 6 months

The graduates’ average monthly wage is 248 USD (average family income before joining PNC is 48 USD)

Thank you for your support and hopefully continued support!

We believe that education is one of the most efficient tools to reduce inequalities and break the cycle of poverty.
