BOOST MENTAL HEALTH FOR 3MIL KIDS IN 180 COUNTRIES

Hello friends!

We’d love to share this update with you about what’s been going on with POP-UP Festival over the last few months. We had a really big year planned for 2020 and had to adjust our goals dramatically in March to meet the moment.

Because POP-UP materials are all distributed online we were lucky to have that part already done.  Also our online training for mentors has been virtual. So the biggest challenge has been to envision how POP-UP Festivals can be virtual experiences and still build connected communities.  We’re currently working on this and will have more to share soon!

A huge accomplishment has been the addition of Paige who will be Global Mentor Coordinator this year. She’s been meeting with our 2020 Mentor Team them monthly with the goal of building stronger networks of volunteers regionally.  Paige has been a lead mentor with POP-UP Festival for the past several years and is an invaluable resource for our team. Go Paige!

NOTES FROM CHINA

This year pop-up in China has been amazing! we have a wechat group with more than 200 volunteers, and Summer together with Chamie have done an amazing work engaging the volunteers. Summer realized last year that for “newbies to EQ” it was challenging to feel confident if they didn’t get prior knowledge on EQ, so she designed and delivered more than a month of weekly and daily messages- introducing eq, the model, the philosophy! she also organized a pop up festival with volunteers from the certified network to play some of the games, take videos and share with everyone. Thank you to them and to everyone in the global team supporting this project

NOTES FROM JAPAN

POP-UP Festival Japan team led by Ayaka started officially in February. All of us are all EQPC and moms and have had POP-UP events before! And we actually created some new activities for POP-UP for Japan. We are going to have monthly zoom mini POP-UPs and try to make POP-UP in Japan a lot bigger than last year!

As we prepare over the next few months to launch POP-UP Festivals, I want to thank each and every one of you who have contributed to our fundraising efforts.  With your help we’ve been able to actively connect with our mentors and volunteers, providing community support during this time of disruptions and isolation.  With POP-UP Festivals, people are able to connect in a playful way and have heartfelt conversations that wouldn’t otherwise have.

Six Seconds has been helping communities around the world create awareness for children’s rights, building emotional intelligence and mental health wellbeing. During the last quarter, we have received outstanding support from our donors. 

To date, we have raised $13,777 from 199 donors.

News from Volunteers

Early this year, we sent out a post POP-UP Festival survey to our volunteers to get feedback on the 2019 Festival. Our volunteers shared some powerful experiences:

“We had this child named Alaya who was always afraid to express her feelings as being told to us by her teacher. But when she started doing activities suddenly opened up with ideas and emotions with our team. Even teachers were surprised to see her capabilities.”

“A parent told us that their child is using the tool at home that we introduced during the POP-UP Festival. The parent told us that it's helping with their relationship.”

“A girl came up with tears of joy saying that she was afraid to express emotions, now she feels relaxed, encouraged and aware of her emotions as important data.”

“POP-UP Festival is a brilliant initiative towards a more emotionally intelligent and self-aware community. An experience that offers bite sized chunks of information in a funny and engaging way.”

What’s Next for POP-UP 2020? 

Due to the overwhelming response from people around the world, we’ve set our goal to reach 3M people this year. 

We’re looking at expanding our network of mentors to mobilize countries and regions. 

We’ve added a staff member to help with logistics and outreach

We’re creating a new collection of activities to address climate crisis and support SDG13 Climate Action. (more news soon about this!)

How can you help POP-UP?

As we think about our 2020 plans, we know we can only reach these goals with the support of our network. In order to continue to provide additional resources to people around the world, we’ll be launching a spring fundraising campaign to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day from April 20– 24 2020 . We’re looking forward to a big show of support to make this year’s POP-UP bigger and better!
