Women Relief Alliance Foundation under our WRAF RELIEF PROJECT, seeks to provide access to clean, abundant water for people in the Boku Community in the North-East Region of Ghana and several other communities facing similar challenges in rural Ghana by constructing mechanized boreholes. This can help rural communities advance towards achieving agricultural activities, securing the education of their children especially the girl child and economic self-sufficiency.
The northern region of Ghana, experience a short rainy season and a long dry season. The main sources of water supply are streams etc. While water supply systems are inadequate, It worsens when water sources dry up. The responsibility of fetching water rests on girls and women Water shortage often creates tension at home and with neighbors at public supply points. A woman noted that when water is scarce women have less sleep and go to farm late; girls can't go school which generally affects them
To relieve especially the women and girls of the Boku community and others facing same difficulty with water shortage, our goal is to build mechanized boreholes for each of these communities. Our efforts will help prevent any household tensions between families and neighbors. We'll have in each community a person to help in education on sanitation hazards and water treatment techniques. Women and girls can be more productive Farming can be done all year-round irrespective of the rainfall pattern
The women in these communities are economically handicapped and the girls are deprived of basic education because of the long hours spent in search of water. This becomes a vicious cycle where girls grow up to do exactly what their mothers did. This project is to break that cycle so that they can use their time in more productive ventures This project will also help to educate them on water sanitation and the health hazards related to unclean and unsafe water.
