Portside Suites is Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center's future vision come to life! This project supports our building acquisition, renovation & expansion to include secure, non-congregate (private living spaces) housing for adults fleeing from dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking. Fair Haven's non-congregate housing will provide residents with individual living spaces, offering a level of privacy and will include comprehensive, wrap-around services for Survivors.
Sexual violence remains a pervasive problem in the US. These intimate acts of violation against a person happen in the home, in school, in the community, on college campuses, and basically anywhere there are people. One in five women and one in seventy-one men will be raped at some point in their lives. Human trafficking ranks as the fastest growing and second largest criminal enterprise in the world. 83% of sex trafficking victims identified in the U.S. were American citizens.
1. Acquire our current building and keeping most of the existing foot print. 2. Upgrade security, adding additional office space for the Rape Crisis Center. 3. PORTSIDE SUITES will be built on the property. The facility will be a secure, stabilization housing facility for adults for up to 9 months. Provide survivors with individual living space that includes: kitchen, bath & laundry. Adding case management, will provide residents with the time and resources they need to break the cycle.
By providing individual & private housing, personalized case management, therapy & support services, we create an opportunity for residents to empower themselves by rebuilding both emotionally and physically, and create pathways to a life far beyond violence and trauma. Our safe housing model is designed with DIGNITY in mind, allowing for personal space to and will give survivors the time and services they need to achieve goals that will move them towards long-term safety and sustainability.
