Summary

A 40 feet (ft) high scaffolding would be built at the artesian water source in order to carry 10,000Litres of water reservoir from where water would be distributed through pipes to six (6) neighbouring communities total 5kM distance. This project will provide regular potable water for about 13,000 rural dwellers in seven (7) communities in total. Serving about 6000 people in its primary community and another 7000 residents through its water extension from the source to neighbouring communities.

Challenge

About 13,000 people lack potable water supply in these rural communities. Their only source of water supply is a stream 8kM away. Water scarcity, poor water quality and inadequate sanitation negatively impact food security, livelihood choices and educational opportunities for residents of these communities. Thus, there is frequent outbreak of water borne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, hookworm, etc contributing to the high mortality rate especially children less than 5 years.

Solution

Towards this project, DFRHCE had sank an industrial borehole in the community which turn out to be an artesian water source which flows out (from about 400 feet) on its own without pumping. Now, a 40 feet (ft) high scaffolding will be built at the artesian water source to carry 10,000Litres of water reservoir from where water would be distributed through underground pipes to six (6) neighbouring communities at a total distance of 5kilometres serving up to 13,000 people with regular potable water

Long-Term Impact

13,000 rural dwellers (from 7 communities) will be provided with regular availability of potable water every day all year round. There will be to a significant reduction in the outbreak of water borne diseases/conditions such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, hookworm, etc thereby contributing to an improved health conditions for about 13,000 rural dwellers.
