In 2024, we proudly began a partnership with IDEAS for US, an Orlando-based nonprofit organization dedicated to “creating global environmental solutions through local action.” Through this collaboration, we donated seeds to support three of their impactful community programs: the Garden Club at Affordable Housing Communities, their School Garden Programs, and the Community Garden in Pine Hills. These programs have made a powerful impact, improving food access, education, and community wellbeing in Central Florida.
Garden Club at Affordable Housing Communities
The Boca Club garden was launched in spring of 2024, and since has been a thriving space where families can come together to grow food and build community. Monthly garden clubs bring families and children into the garden to plant seeds and start, while also learning essential gardening skills. This gardening program is being continued this year.
Our seed donations also helped support the community garden at Pathlight Home, an affordable housing facility serving over 600 individuals transitioning out of homelessness. Over the past year, this garden has become a place of nourishment, skill-building, and healing. Seasonal garden refresh events were run in 2024 and monthly garden club events are being run this year.
These gardening programs are strengthening resilience by fostering local food systems and providing free job training for affordable housing residents.
School Garden Programs
Seeds also played a vital role in supporting school garden initiatives at three schools: Hungerford Elementary School, Jones High School, and Evans High School. Located in underserved communities, these schools benefit from ongoing programming that engages students aged 6-18.The gardens serve as dynamic outdoor classrooms, where students gain hands-on experience in life sciences and learn the fundamentals of growing their own food. Beyond education, fresh vegetables grown in the gardens are sent home with the students, promoting healthy eating habits and addressing food insecurity in these food desert communities.
Community Garden in Pine Hills
Pine Hills faces significant challenges, including being a food desert and experiencing a history of gun violence. In 2024, IDEAS for US was proud to bring new hope to the neighborhood by creating a vibrant community garden. This space now features 12 garden beds, a fruit tree orchard, two pollinator gardens, and an outdoor classroom. The garden serves as a shared resource for two distinct groups: a senior gardening club and 188 children enrolled in the Head Start program, a government-funded early education initiative for kids aged 3-5. During bi-weekly classes, Head Start students engage in immersive, hands-on activities—planting seeds, exploring plants up close, and discovering new ways to see the world around them. The seniors, who are the primary recipients of the garden’s harvest, find joy and fulfillment in cultivating food for themselves and their community.
We were honored to partner with IDEAS for US in 2024 and are excited to continue this impactful collaboration in 2025. This partnership has not only expanded access to fresh, healthy food but also strengthened environmental awareness, educational opportunities, and community resilience. Thank you for supporting this program!
