Greetings, Family and Friends of Kono Gnaga,
As we prepare for the upcoming school year in Mali, Kono Gnaga is excited to begin a new partnership with Farafina Kan, a Washington, DC/Maryland-based organization, to create opportunities for young people in Mali and the United States to connect through the arts.
We are in the early stages of planning this partnership, which will support youth programming in both countries through music, dance, and cultural education. Together, we hope to give young people opportunities to discover and celebrate their cultural heritage, build confidence and community, develop leadership skills, and carry traditional music and dance forward to a new generation.
We believe connections between young people in Mali and the United States are especially valuable. Through the arts, youth can build bridges across communities and cultures, learn from one another, and develop a deeper appreciation for both their own traditions and those of others.
To launch this partnership, we will hold a special celebration on October 24 in the Washington, DC/Maryland area, featuring music, dance, and cultural traditions from Mali and across West Africa. The event will bring together youth. families, artists, and community members while helping raise support for our repsective programs.
We are excited about the possibilities this partnership creates and the opportunity to give more young people the chance to learn, create, connect, and grow through the traditional ats.
We hope you’ll join us on October 24! Check out our wonderful lineup of performers and come celebrate the music, dance, and culture of Mali and West Africa with us.
With Gratitude,
Solo, Zyck and the Kono Gnaga Board of Directors
