Protect Babies by Preventing HIV at Birth

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your interest in the Prevent HIV Transmission from Mother to Child project. At present, no donations have been received, and program activities have not yet started.

Across many communities in Nigeria, pregnant women are still unable to access timely HIV testing and care. Some live far from health facilities, while others avoid testing due to fear or lack of information. Without early screening, mothers may carry the virus through pregnancy without knowing, which increases the risk for their babies.

When proper care is not available, infants can be exposed to HIV during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding. Many of these cases can be prevented with early testing and treatment, yet gaps in access continue to affect families.

This project is planned to provide HIV testing, counseling, and treatment support for pregnant women. Health workers will guide mothers through testing, monitor their care, and provide follow-up support to help protect both mother and child.

With timely care, the chances of babies being born free from HIV can greatly improve. Mothers will also receive the support they need to stay healthy and care for their families.

We appreciate your time in learning about this effort and remain hopeful that support will come so this program can begin reaching mothers and protecting newborns.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
Project Leader
