Violence against women remains widespread, affecting safety, health, and opportunities. This project uses a high-profile volleyball tournament to empower women, raise awareness, and promote gender equality. Twelve teams-6 men's, 6 women's-from ministries, NGOs, embassies, police, and army will compete in 25 matches. The event combines sport with education on preventing abuse, inspiring communities to support and protect women and girls.
Violence against women and girls remains pervasive and underreported. Survivors face physical harm, trauma, and limited opportunities, while communities often lack safe spaces for education and advocacy. Without intervention, cycles of abuse persist, and social norms perpetuate gender inequality, leaving women vulnerable to harassment, assault, and discrimination. Urgent, visible action is needed to change behavior and protect women.
By combining sports and advocacy, this volleyball tournament empowers women and girls, builds teamwork, and creates safe spaces to learn about rights and violence prevention. Men's participation promotes understanding and respect, breaking harmful stereotypes. The competitive, public format draws attention, engages communities, and educates audiences, turning a popular sport into a platform for sustainable behavioral change and stronger gender equality.
The project strengthens confidence, social networks, and leadership among women and girls, while fostering community awareness and accountability. Engaged men and boys learn respect and advocacy for gender equality. In subsequent time, communities adopt safer practices, report violence, and create supportive networks. The model encourages replication in other regions, ensuring sustainable prevention of violence against women through sports and community engagement.
