Soar Girls fight against taboos !

By Lila Bernard | Communication & Development Intern

Hi Friends !

We want to thank You, our supporters for your continuous help to fight period poverty in Morocco. Thanks to you we are able to provide Soar Girls with sustainable, shame-free period products!

In addition to period protections, during the Soar empowerment program, teen girls receive comprehensive training on menstruation that fights stereotypes and teaches them how to take care of themselves during this normal part of life.

Period Poverty affects teen girls first, as they often lack economic means to purchase their own period protections.

Nassima, Loubna and Hind, grew up in environments where it was thought that taking showers during your periods was wrong and dangerous. Hind told us that through Project Soar’s workshops she learned to rest and shower everyday during her periods.

Sometimes family members believe it is shameful to talk about menstruation, explain Asma and Nour and they add that “some believe it is dirty and a taboo that should not be discussed with parents.”

Despite the taboos, a lot of the girls address the topic with their mothers and sisters, and Project Soar’s training helps them take an extra step and let go of the fake common beliefs surrounding the most natural thing in life

Not having access to proper protection during this time of the month stops many girls from going to school. Nassima, Loubna and Hind were questioned about whether or not they attended school during their menstruations and luckily they all replied YES and underlined the importance of school in their lives!

Period kits help keep girls in school, increase their confidence, and reduce the risk of child marriage and teen pregnancy!

Thanks to you girls like Nassima, Loubna and Hind know there is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to their period! Never doubt you are making a difference.

Warmest wishes,

Project Soar team
