Safe Childhood
During this period, workshops were conducted with 5th and 6th grade elementary school students, with the objective of providing them with essential tools for their integral development, self-care, and informed decision-making.
Throughout the sessions, key topics focused on helping children understand their rights, reinforcing that they deserve to be respected, heard, and protected at all times. Students were guided to recognize their bodies, including the physical and emotional sensations they experience as a natural part of puberty, helping them understand these changes in a healthy and age-appropriate way.
In addition, the topic of sexual abuse was addressed in a clear and sensitive manner. Students learned how to identify inappropriate situations, recognize when something makes them feel uncomfortable, and confidently say “no.” Emphasis was placed on the importance of seeking help from trusted adults—such as parents, teachers, or close family members—if they feel at risk or experience any form of harassment.
As part of their preventive education, students also received basic information about pregnancy, including its risks and the physical, emotional, and social implications it can have. They were introduced to sexually transmitted infections and reproductive rights in an age-appropriate context. It was reinforced that sexual relationships are part of adulthood and should occur within a context of mutual respect, consent, and care.
These workshops contribute to the development of more informed, confident, and empowered children, strengthening their ability to protect themselves, make responsible decisions, and understand that they are not alone—that they have the right to be safe, to be heard, and to seek support from trusted adults whenever they need it
