Summary

The project is for the awareness campaign on the prevention of the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease epidemic to the population of high-risk zones of Rwanda, namely Rusizi, Musanze, Burera, Gicumbi Nyagatare Districts and the Rwandan capital Kigali and surrounding areas. It will reach 1,787,911 people. Activities grouped under 4 headings: Reflection Day, Community Awareness, Radio and Television Broadcasting and billboards in public places.

Challenge

Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness affecting humans. The average EVD case fatality rate is around 50%. Case fatality rates have varied from 25% to 90% in past outbreaks. More than 1,600 people have died of Ebola in DR Congo since the outbreak began in August 2018 but those have been in more remote areas. The current outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the DR of the Congo poses a high risk of introduction the Rwanda.

Solution

The Muga Foundation organizes awareness activities and a retreat; prepare and broadcast radio and television programs; and sets panels all relevant to preventing and controlling the spread of Ebola to populations in high-risk districts. Mass awareness campaigns are organized with the involvement of the administrative authorities, opinion leaders, communities and religious; the programs are broadcast and the billboards in public places are set to share the messages to the population of high-risk

Long-Term Impact

The project will inform, sensitize and educate 1,787,911 people of 5 high risks districts and its surroundings to the prevention the spread of Ebola; It will form also to discuss how community can protect itself against current disease outbreak. Some authorities will realize the need to do their job well and will put the resolutions of the retreat into practice. The reflection day will awaken somehow authorities who will be involved.
