GlobalGiving Project Report

Project Title: Prevention of Kidney Diseases in Pakistan
Organization: Fatima Memorial Hospital (Nephrology Department)
Report Period: Q2 2025

Project Overview

Pakistan is witnessing a sharp rise in chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to late diagnoses, limited public awareness, and financial barriers to care. At Fatima Memorial Hospital’s Nephrology Department, we are committed to providing affordable, quality renal care to underserved patients — with round-the-clock inpatient, outpatient, and emergency nephrology services. We are now working to expand our dialysis capacity to meet the growing burden of disease.

Progress Update (April–June 2025)

  • Outpatient Clinics: 2 weekly clinics conducted regularly, serving over 500 patients/month at a subsidized fee of PKR 200 (~USD 1.10).
  • Emergency Room Services: 24/7 nephrology response provided to over 900 emergency patients per month.
  • Hemodialysis Unit:
    • 100+ patients enrolled for regular dialysis (2–3 sessions/week)
    • Over 9,000 free dialysis sessions completed in the past year
    • Services include initiation of emergency dialysis for both inpatients and walk-ins
  • Procedures Performed:
    • Kidney biopsies
    • Temporary and permanent catheter insertions
    • Peritoneal dialysis access procedures — most offered free of cost
  • Equipment Status:
    • 13 total dialysis machines
    • 5 for Hepatitis C-positive patients
    • 8 for non-infectious patients
    • 1 for Hepatitis B-positive patients
    • 7 machines have exceeded 50,000 hours of use (far beyond expected lifespan)

Financial Need Snapshot

  • Why We Need Support:
    • Reduce overload on aging machines
    • Continue free-of-cost dialysis for low-income patients
    • Improve patient outcomes and reduce wait times
  • Estimated Cost per Machine: PKR 2.8 million (~USD 10,000)
  • Expansion Goal: 4 additional machines (USD 40,000 total)
  • This would allow for approx. 5,000 additional dialysis sessions annually, supporting 40+ more patients

Voices from the Unit

"My mother’s dialysis is the only reason she is still alive. We couldn’t afford it outside — but FMH saved her."
— Patient’s son
"Even during emergencies, I never feel alone here. They treat everyone with dignity — no matter their background."
— Dialysis Patient, age 54

Upcoming Goals

  • Expand the dialysis unit with new equipment
  • Train new staff for machine operation
  • Launch a public awareness drive on CKD prevention
  • Raise funds to subsidize diagnostics and medications

How You Can Help

  • Donate to help us buy new dialysis machines
  • Support free treatments for low-income patients
  • Share this project with your network
  • Set up a recurring monthly gift to support long-term care

Why This Matters

In Pakistan, where millions lack access to safe and timely kidney care, your donation is not just a gift — it’s a lifeline. With your support, we can extend our services to the most vulnerable and continue saving lives every single day.
