A Message from the Founding Executive Director
As 2025 draws to a close, we reflect on a year defined by resilience, learning, and renewed hope across YDCA’s programs. Despite persistent challenges—including limited funding, economic pressures, and emerging social risks affecting children and youth—our commitment to empowering young people, especially girls, has remained unwavering. These challenges continue to threaten hard-won gains in education, protection, and youth development, yet they have also strengthened our resolve to act.
Throughout the year, YDCA members, volunteers, and partners have continued to show up—advocating for children’s rights, promoting access to education, fostering dialogue and peacebuilding, and challenging harmful norms that limit the potential of young people. Across our communities, we have seen girls and youth step forward as leaders, students stay engaged in school, and families embrace positive change. These moments remind us why our work matters and what is possible when communities come together with a shared purpose.
Looking ahead to 2026
Looking ahead to 2026, the need for collaboration has never been greater. This moment calls on us to deepen partnerships, strengthen community ownership, and maximize shared resources to respond effectively to the challenges facing Liberia’s children and youth. Together, we are stronger—and it is through collective action that lasting change becomes possible.
Guided by the insights and leadership of our members, partners, and the communities we serve, YDCA is refining its strategic direction for the years ahead. This next phase of our work will build on lessons learned, respond to emerging needs, and sharpen our focus on education, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and child protection. We are deeply grateful to all who have contributed their time, ideas, and support to shaping this journey.
With renewed energy and determination, we move into the new year committed to strengthening opportunities for children and youth, advancing gender equality, and building a more peaceful and inclusive Liberia. Together, we will continue to turn hope into action and impact into lasting change.
Looking Back at 2025
As we look back at 2025, we are reminded of the power of small, intentional actions to create lasting change in the lives of children and young people. This year, YDCA remained committed to advancing dignity, education, and global understanding, even amid financial constraints and operational challenges.
One of our key achievements in 2025 was the distribution of menstrual hygiene materials to girls in underserved communities. By providing menstrual kits and delivering awareness sessions, we helped reduce school absenteeism, break stigma around menstruation, and promote confidence and dignity among adolescent girls. For many beneficiaries, this support meant staying in school, participating fully in class, and feeling seen and valued.
Liberia–Japan Pen Pal Program
We also strengthened global friendship and cultural exchange through the Liberia–Japan Pen Pal Program. This initiative connected Liberian students with their peers in Japan, fostering cross-cultural learning, mutual respect, and global citizenship. Through letters, drawings, and shared stories, students built meaningful relationships that broadened their worldviews and inspired hope beyond borders.
Looking back, 2025 was a year of learning, resilience, and impact. Each program reinforced our belief that when young people are supported and connected, they become powerful agents of change. As we move forward, we carry these lessons with us—committed to expanding opportunity, deepening partnerships, and reaching even more children and youth in the years ahead.
What’s Coming Up in 2026
As we enter 2026, YDCA is building on the momentum of the past year with renewed commitment to education, youth empowerment, and dignity for girls. The year ahead will focus on deepening impact, expanding partnerships, and strengthening programs that place children and young people at the center of sustainable community development.
In 2026, we will continue and strengthen the Liberia–Japan Pen Pal Program, creating more opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and global learning. Building on the relationships formed in 2025, the program will expand participation to more schools, encourage consistent communication between students, and introduce guided learning themes that promote peace, cultural understanding, and leadership.
Benjamin Lambson Scholarship Fund
We are also proud to launch the Benjamin Lambson Scholarship Fund, a new education support initiative designed to provide access to quality education for vulnerable children in Liberia. Beginning with an initial cohort of students, the scholarship will support school fees, learning materials, and mentorship, helping children stay in school and pursue their academic goals with confidence. This program reflects YDCA’s belief that education is a powerful pathway to opportunity and long-term change.
Benjamin Lambson is a committed supporter of education and youth development whose generosity and belief in equal access to learning have inspired the establishment of the Benjamin Lambson Scholarship Fund, creating new opportunities for vulnerable children in Liberia to pursue their education with hope and dignity.
Additionally, YDCA will continue the distribution of menstrual hygiene products to girls in underserved communities. In 2026, this initiative will be strengthened through regular distributions, school-based awareness sessions, and community engagement aimed at reducing stigma and preventing menstruation-related school absenteeism. By prioritizing menstrual health, we affirm every girl’s right to learn with dignity and without interruption.
Together, these initiatives represent YDCA’s commitment to investing in education, equity, and global connection. As we move forward into 2026, we look ahead with hope—ready to work alongside partners, donors, and communities to expand impact and create lasting change for Liberia’s children and youth.
