Primary School Khoja Mohammad Parsa, Afghanistan

Dear donor,

2021 has come to an end and we would love to share with you the progress we've made over the past few months at the Mohammad Parsa Primary School. Each and everyone of you made it possible! Your support is not a matter of course and we are very grateful for it.

• May 2021: Laying of the foundation stone
  
  The foundation for the new building had been laid. The construction of the 12 classrooms and sanitary facilities could begin.

• June 2021: Preparations for the new buildings
  
  The preparations for the new buildings were in full swing. After the areas where classrooms, offices and sanitary facilities were to be built had been staked out, the excavation and foundation work as well as the levelling of the terrain were completed.  

• July and August 2021: Successful construction progress
  
  Thanks to the trainings on hygiene measures, construction work continued despite ongoing lockdown and closed schools due to the third COVID-19 wave. The pillars of the school building could be raised.

• October 2021: Request for extension submitted
  
  Due to a late start of the construction, the effects of the pandemic and the tense political situation, the project was unfortunately delayed. Also the planned workshops for students, teachers and school employees had to be postponed to 2022. That's why we submitted an amendment to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

• November 2021: Shell almost finished
  
  The shell of the new two-story school building is almost finished!

Even with the good news however, since the Taliban took power, around 200 of the 600 students are currently no longer attending classes at the transitional school. According to the principal, most of them sell plastic bags instead to support their families financially.
