The Alagados favela is a 50,000 inhabitants urban neighborhood in Salvador de Bahia, one of the poorest of Brazil's large cities. It is infested by both human and drug trafficking. In this context, young women are particularly vulnerable. This project aims to promote the DIGNITY of women in the favela through professional and human training. Each year we train nearly 100 people in IT, sewing, cooking and caregiving. This allows them to acquire their financial autonomy.
Drug trafficking is the main disease of the Alagados favela. The vast majority of the young inhabitants grow up without their father who is often dead or in jail. Since the family income is generally insufficient to cover the basic needs, many suffer from deficiencies in food and receive little medical care. This poverty continues from generation to generation because young people left school very young and lacks the qualifications to find work.
This project offers professional training to the most disadvantaged residents of the neighborhood. This is an opportunity to offer human support. It also allows the integration of local residents into the project and allows them to benefit from local professional networks.
Since 2009, this project has trained more than 900 people from the favela, many of whom have found work. The project thus contributes to the economic development of the neighborhood and promotes the dignity of the most disadvantaged people and in particular women by allowing them an alternative to different types of trafficking.
