Backpacks for students in school is an important part of student life. Plenty of children living in impoverished communities around Sierra Leone and Nigeria are left using a plastic bag, paper bag or torn bag or simply wrap their books with a rope because parents cannot afford to buy their children one. Be Rose Foundation, will use all donations to provide 2500 students with a waterproof backpack to secure their books & school supplies during the raining season in Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
Plenty of Children attend schools in Sierra Leone and Nigeria without a school bag or torn bags, Some are forced to tie yarns around their books in order for them to carry their books. Due to the heavy rains, books are usually soaked and damaged because students do not have the proper school bags to store books and supplies. Some children do not attend school for fear that they will be punished for losing their school work. Shoulder bags also cause strain on one side of the body.
Each waterproof backpack will help students carry their books and other school supplies which will preserve their books and supplies from getting wet and damaged. It will also allow students to follow up with their lessons both at school and at home. It will also be more difficult for school work and assignments to be lost and damaged. Due to the heavy rainfalls in the country, students who carry their books in a durable waterproof backpack will have fewer books that are damaged and destroyed.
The project will provide 2500 durable and waterproof backpacks for children in impoverished neighborhoods in Sierra Leone and Nigeria. It will improve attendance resulting in more students passing their exams and classes. It will also ensure that school books are safe protected and less likely to be destroyed by the heavy rains It will also improve children's health compared to those who carry shoulder bags.
