Summary

Jewish Humanitarian Response (JHR), incubated by the Aleph Institute (Aleph), has been evacuating vulnerable Afghans who are on Taliban kill lists and resettling them in countries abroad. We have served many groups that the Taliban have sworn to kill, one of them being Afghan prosecutors. Many have been successfully relocated to Germany and Spain, and we continue to try to secure pathways for them in welcoming countries where they can start new lives in safety after all they have endured.

Challenge

Our prosecutors tell harrowing stories about what life was like in Afghanistan for them after the fall of Kabul, when the Taliban regained control of the country. They recall going into hiding as soon as the Taliban seized control, knowing that the Taliban had declared judges and prosecutors and government officials in the previous Republic government to be their enemies. Each and every one of these vulnerable people need evacuation and resettlement.

Solution

We are in regular communication with more than 200 Afghan female prosecutors who are in need of evacuation, resettlement, and monetary support as they wait to be permanently resettled. JHR has been funding many prosecutors for several months through private donations, and applying for grants for them. These funds cover food, rent in safe house apartments, medicine and medical emergencies such as C-sections and custom orthotics and pediatric hearing aids, travel, exit permits, and visa renewals.

Long-Term Impact

Each and every female prosecutor successfully resettled takes them out of harm's way and eliminates the threat of Taliban reprisal. This in turn allows for them to continue contributing the the world and allows these individuals and their families a chance for a durable, safe, and positive future - free from persecution.
