Project of the Month Club Update: September 2017

Dear Project of the Month Club,

Hello from Washington, D.C.! I have great news about your worldwide impact.

In August, 327 of you gave a total of $11,778 to support Fundacion Ninos de los Andes’ project Give at-risk Colombian children a safe home in Bogota, Colombia. FNA is buying a new bus to safely shuttle children to school! Their old bus kept breaking down, so your donations could not have come at a better time.

This month, you’ll be supporting Belize Bird Rescue’s Help keep Belize Bird Rescue up and running project. As the only avian rescue organization in all of Belize, they care for 170 formerly captive parrots in their long-term release program and rehabilitate more than 250 birds each year.

Nikki from the Belize Bird Rescue team was overjoyed to hear the news. She has a message of thanks to you:

“We are completely in shock! We cannot thank you enough for selecting Belize Bird Rescue’s projectHelp keep Belize Bird Rescue up and Runningas GlobalGiving's September Project of the Month.

“This is an incredible opportunity for us and it couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. We are practically grounded as both of our tired old vehicles are in need of serious work. One is off the road completely and the other is limping along at a horrific cost of $1 a mile! We typically travel 300+ miles week, and along with our conservation partners Belize Animal Rescue, we are first respondents for practically all of the bird and small animal rescues in the entire country. Having our wings clipped this way has been quite a challenge for our work this breeding season.”

Nikki is confident they can stretch the impact of these donations even further.

“The funds from the Club will comfortably cover the purchase of an economical and practical used vehicle, but we intend to use the next few weeks to search the country for a co-sponsor to maximise the impact of these surprise funds and acquire the best vehicle possible with the money.

“Thank you once again for your generosity and for supporting our vital conservation work in Belize, and we can’t wait to present the new vehicle to the Club members later this year.”

Project of the Month Club Update: August 2017

Dear Project of the Month Club,

Greetings from Washington, D.C.! I have exciting news about the impact of your generosity.

In July, 332 of you gave a total of $11,591 to support Pravo Vibora’s Create Braille Books for 1000 Blind Children project in Kyiv, Ukraine. Pravo Vibora will be able to buy a new braille printer with your donations!

This month, your donations are headed to Colombia to support Fundacion Niños de los Andes, an organization in Bogota visited by GlobalGiving field travelers on two separate occasions. Their project, Give at-risk Colombian children a safe home, operates a group home for vulnerable children without supportive families. The kids are given food, shelter, clothes, mentoring, school supplies, and transportation to schools around the city. Last year alone, FNA served 6,500 children.

Patricia from FNA was ecstatic to hear they’ve been chosen as Project of the Month. She has a message of thanks to you:

“Wow, this is really fantastic news! To be selected as Project of the Month for August 2017 means that our efforts working together with GlobalGiving and our generous donors are having great results to fulfill our common goal making a positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children in Colombia.”

However, transportation has been an issue for FNA lately. Their school bus is old, keeps breaking down, and is becoming unsafe and expensive. That’s where you come in.

“The members of the Club can be sure their donations will help us to meet the biggest need we have at this moment: the school bus we have been using for the last 15 years to transport the children breaks down at least once per week which leads to missed school and ever mounting repair costs. Replacing it is an urgent priority. Thanks to their support we will be able to buy the new bus to daily transport the 63 children to school in a safe and reliable way!” explained Patricia.

Project of the Month Club Update: July 2017

Dear Project of the Month Club,

It’s July, and I have good news: your donations are continuing to make an astounding impact all around the world!

Last month, 329 of you gave a total of $11,490 to support CREATE!’s Clean Water for 1,500 People in Senegal project. Alix, GlobalGiving’s West Africa field traveler, was totally blown away by CREATE!’s work connecting families in Senegal to clean water and community gardens.

In March, Skye, our field traveler covering Eastern Europe, visited Pravo Vibora’s Create Braille Books for 1000 Blind Children in Kyiv, Ukraine. Skye was “absolutely stunned by the breadth and depth of assistance Pravo Vibora is offering to the blind community in Ukraine. Their work is imperative to allowing children with visual impairments, life choice and opportunity—found nowhere else in Ukraine.”

Pravo Vibora’s small printing house produces braille books with tactile illustrations for children with visual impairments. They also educate families and support children who are blind throughout their education.

Anastasiya from Pravo Vibora was overjoyed when we told her the great news that they’ll be receiving around $11,000 from Project of the Month Club. She’s finally going to be able to purchase a new braille printer!

“We are so proud that our work was recognized by GlobalGiving. Thank you very much! As a result, more blind children will get a chance to read tales and stories as their peers do and more blind kids will enjoy reading and studying. Last year, the government signed the document that initiates inclusive education in Ukraine. That means our blind kids will go to general public school and get their education as their peers do while using more braille textbooks for classes. We are doing our best to supply them with the needed set of books. Unfortunately, the braille printer that we purchased in 2015 does not meet the needs. The children now need more books for school and kindergartens. There are more and more tales and stories to come out. Our studio is not able to meet the needs with the old printer.

“So, we are planning to purchase a new powerful braille printer called Braille Box. The price for it is $17,000 dollars. We hope to raise more funds to be able to cover the braille printer’s price. So, the $11,000 sum will be spent to purchase a new printer.

“With the help of new printer we will be able to print more books and reach to more blind children around Ukraine, including schools and kindergartens. That way the children will learn to read, get more literacy and education, and enjoy their right to education.”

Your donations this month are bridging the education gap in Ukraine for children with visual impairments. Thank you for your commitment to making the world a little better place!
