Dear Project of the Month Club,

We can't believe it's the last month of the year! November saw the biggest day in our history with #GivingTuesday, when we raised $2.4 million for 1,477 projects in 124 countries thanks to incredible donors like you and the generosity of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As always, we also have another inspiring project to share with you this month.

Last month, 263 of you gave a total of $8,787 to support Appropriate Technology Collaborative’s Mayan Power and Light project, which provides training and support to women in Guatemala so they can start their own solar power businesses.

This month, your donations are going to support Uhambo's Overcoming Stigma of Disabilities in South Africa which builds a network of inspired and engaged individuals who want to serve and transform the perception of people with disabilities. Lucinda Kerschensteiner, Founding Director for Uhambo, has this message for you:

"What a wonderful end-of-year gift for Uhambo! Thank you for participating and supporting Uhambo's work. Our team in South Africa works every day to not just fight stigma but provide inclusion opportunities for children with disabilities. Our wheelchairs get them out of their home to see the world outside of their walls, but it's our holistic training and community programs that allow them to develop and reach their potential while breaking down barriers for others with disabilities. Your support allows us to reach into more and more communities."

When we asked what nearly $9,000 could do for Uhambo, Lucinda knew exactly how your donation will make a difference:

"We have several projects right now that your support can be applied to:

1. Our award-winning signature Ndinogona "I Can" Stimulation Program trains the staff of child care centers on how to properly care for and enhance the development of children with disabilities. Through this program, we change the perceptions of those who interact with children with disabilities and empower them to be part of their growth and potential. We have several centers throughout South Africa that have requested this program. At one child care center, 30-50 children with disabilities, their families, 10-20 staff and the community at large are empowered to create a better future.

2. Uhambo is developing a First Aid Training program to include how to treat disabilities, an overlooked emergency medical component in southern Africa. Many people and children with disabilities are further harmed due to lack of skills by emergency workers."

Dear Project of the Month Club,

We are entering the winter months in D.C. and gearing up for the holiday giving season! Each day, new inspiring projects join our site, and we have one we are excited to share with you this month.

Last month, 263 of you gave a total of $8,787 to support SIMA’s Bring Global Education to 100 Los Angeles Schools project, which exhibits award-winning documentaries to students in underserved schools, introducing them to a broader worldview.

This month, your donations are supporting Appropriate Technology Collaborative’s Mayan Power and Light project, which gives Guatemalan women skills and support necessary to start small businesses selling and installing affordable solar power. Monika Goforth, Programs Director for the Appropriate Technology Collaborative, has this message for you:

Wow! This is great news! Thank you so much for selecting Mayan Power and Light for Project of the Month! We've had a great year: first, we got listed as Sustainia's Top 100 Sustainable Solutions and now, GlobalGiving's Project of the Month! This is big.”

When we asked what nearly $9,000 could do for Appropriate Technology Collaborative, Monika knew how your donation would make an impact:

“Your support comes just in time, as we plan for 2017's cohort of solar women for an inclusive, sustainable economy. Now we can mobilize our recruitment for 24 new solar saleswomen who are committed to learning business skills and solar technology to sustainably develop their community while generating income for their families.”

Bring Global Education To 100 In-Need Schools

Dear Project of the Month Club,

We have rounded the corner into fall in D.C. and last month welcomed nearly 50 new nonprofit partners through the first-ever Accelerator campaign. Those projects are now on our site and ready for donations! Speaking of inspiring projects, we have one we are excited to share with you this month.

Last month, 261 of you gave a total of $8,873 to support Zartonk-89’s ICT as a tool for young voices project, where your donation is going to help fund aspiring journalists as they learn to use modern technology in Armenia.

This month your donations are supporting SIMA’s Bring Global Education to 100 In-Need Schools project, which introduces students to a wider worldview through educational documentaries. Andrea Kelsey, SIMA’s project leader, has this message for you:

“We are so honored to have been selected as GlobalGiving’s Project of The Month! On behalf of SIMA and 46,725 students across the U.S., thank you for giving us wings. SIMA Classroom was born out of a conviction to bring global education to the next generation of changemakers through the power of visual storytelling. With access to the most current and compelling works of social-documentary filmmaking via our annual Social Impact Media Awards, SIMA Classroom is a natural progression of our mission, allowing us to provide educators with the tools to inspire global perspective building and nurture the values of peace, respect and cross-cultural understanding. We are beyond grateful for your support in this endeavor and for your investment in education that builds a better world.”

When we asked what $8,800 could do for SIMA, Andrea immediately knew what kind of impact it would make:

“Your support will bring global education to 89 academic institutions across the U.S, serving 46,725 students and 2,234 educators. Your generosity will bring us to an incredible 32% of our fundraising goal for 2017, making SIMA Classroom accessible to our waiting list of an additional 284 at-need schools.”

Bringing global education to a student is great in itself, bringing it to 46,725 students is incredible! We can’t wait to share SIMA’s progress with you next month!
