United for Colombia will provide artificial limbs, orthopedic rehabilitation and psychological counseling to 35 maimed Colombian civilians who were injured due to landmines and/or unexploded devices.
Over 120,000 landmines have been planted by FARC guerrillas in the Colombian fields which have killed or maimed over 10,000 people in the last 15 years. Every day, two Colombians step on landmines or accidentally activate an unexploded artifact. Sadly, Colombia is the country with the second most daily landmine victims in the world. Due to the vast number of victims and the complexity of their wounds, the Government is limited to afford specialized orthopedic care or cover all the expenses.
United for Colombia will sponsor high-quality and tailor-made artificial limbs, along with proper physical therapies and psychological counseling, to 35 children and youngsters who lack the resources to access best quality and high technology medical care. These civilians will regain their mobility and self-confidence, and they will be able to resume their daily activities, especially children who can go back to school and play outdoor sports.
By providing specialized medical support and orthopedic rehabilitation, these civilians will enjoy a better quality of life as well as their families and caretakers who will be alleviated. They will recover their health and independence securing a brighter future for themselves.
