Special thanks to our many Global Giving Donors!
José Inocencio is a 17-year-old boy from Tame, Arauca. On 2010, he stepped on a landmine that was hidden in a road near his house and lost his legs. Nowadays, he lives with his parents and five siblings. José greatly enjoys spending time with his family and friends and is passionate about helping his family with farming and living in the forest where he grew up. His mother works in the coffee fields and his father cuts trees in the forest. After almost a month receiving physical and psychological therapy at the Centro Integral de Rehabilitacion de Colombia (CIREC) headquarters in Bogotá, José is so happy to return home, finish his school and be back with his family and community.
United for Colombia has helped José several times, providing him with medical assistance and financial resources to support his two prosthetic legs, vitamins, medical appointments and psychological assistance.
United for Colombia has also helped José to improve his quality of life and social well-being. In addition to his high-quality new prosthetic legs, United for Colombia provides José with academic, vocational and life-skills training such as training on how to be organized, how to maintain his prosthetic legs and how to perform well in his studies.
José is an example of “If you want, you can!”
“Thank you for my two new legs!”
— José Inocencio, 17 years old
