Children are vanishing from India's chaotic and busy railway stations every day. They are kidnapped, snatched, trafficked and sold into slavery. Forced into child labour or sex work most of these children are never seen again. Your support will help us transform more stations into child friendly spaces, where our workers race to reach children before an abuser does, and support them into safer, brighter futures.
Delhi's two main railway stations have a combined footfall of 30,000 passengers with 48 trains stopping there every day. These noisy, crowded railway stations are an ideal hunting ground for traffickers who prey on the children forced to survive there. If we can get to them first, we can keep them safe and give them the support they need, and trace their families or find an alternative safe place for them long-term.
Our Child Help Desks give children, lost and alone, somewhere safe to go to get help, we are able to offer them the care and protection they need when they need it most. Our Outreach Workers search the railway platforms looking for children at risk and reaching them before an abuser can. Our staff not only trace children's families and return them home where safe to do so, but provide the support they need to have a brighter future.
By working with not only the child, but the whole family, we can ensure we get to the root of the problem to ensure children are not in a risky situation again. We also work with staff members and members of the public in and around railway stations to raise awareness of the risks to children, so we have more eyes and ears looking out for and protecting children at risk - meaning the impact of this project spreads much wider, and for longer, that the project itself.
