Our community work exists to ensure no child ends up on the streets - supporting vulnerable children and high risk families before they get separated, so no harm ever comes to those children. By addressing the issues that often lead to separation and children entering street life, we will enable those families to stay together and thrive. Your support will help us expand our community work and support more children and families in more slum communities, and protect children for good.
India's slum communities can be incredibly difficult places to live - families often don't have the right paperwork to be able to access basic rights such as healthcare, education and social support, meaning generations get stuck in a cycle of poverty. Faced with these hardships children often go out to find work to help support the family, or run away in the hopes of a better life - but the risks to children when they leave home for the streets are often so much worse.
By working with high-risk families we are able to support the child and the whole family before they are separated and any danger comes to the child. We support them back into education to help break the cycle of poverty, we help families access healthcare and social welfare so they can live healthier lives and have no need for children to work to help the family income, and run awareness sessions on child rights and child protection the whole community can spot and support children at risk.
Not only do these preventative measures mean that children are less likely to run away and come to significant harm, it allows the whole family to live healthier, happier lives and provide a more stable family environment for the whole family. By raising community awareness we are creating a ripple effect of people understanding the risks facing children, and creates a whole network of eyes and ears protecting children.
