In January 2025, our team supported Thai authorities in the arrest of a migrant offender who targeted two young boys through online platforms. The offender used deception and coercion to exploit the children for live-streamed abuse, taking advantage of their vulnerability and limited protection.
Working closely with law enforcement and justice actors, our role focused on victim-centred support, evidence coordination, and ensuring that the children were protected throughout the process. From the moment of arrest, safeguarding the wellbeing of the children remained the top priority.
Less than one year later, the court delivered a verdict—an unusually swift outcome for a case of this complexity. The defendant was convicted under Thailand’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, Child Protection Act, and Criminal Codeon multiple serious charges, including child trafficking, sexual exploitation of children, and the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
The court sentenced the offender to a total of more than 20 years’ imprisonment and ordered significant financial compensation (total of 2.5 million baht) for both victims. The ruling recognized the severe harm caused and affirmed the principle that crimes against children both online and offlin will be met with serious consequences.
This case demonstrates what is possible when law enforcement, the justice system, and child protection organizations work together. For the children involved, it represents accountability, recognition of harm, and a step toward healing. For us, it reinforces the importance of sustained investment in child protection, cooperation, and survivor-centred justice.
