Protect Children from Sex Trafficking in Thailand

One of our dedicated social workers took a victim of human trafficking to court for witness examination. Given the complexity of the case and the accused's legal constraints, the examination was conducted via an online conference.

Throughout this challenging process, Muay witnessed the victim bravely recounting their traumatic experiences in court. They were subjected to rigorous cross-examination by the defense lawyer and had to present evidence, including conversations and materials related to their exploitation.

This case highlighted the significant hurdles victims face in the legal process. They are required to relive their trauma and recall intricate details of past events, often leading to emotional distress. The online format meant that victims had to view disturbing evidence on their screens, further impacting their mental well-being.

The HUG Project has been actively engaged in not only handling cases, but also providing support to government shelters that aid trafficked and abused children. Our dedicated staff frequently offers consultations and facilitates collaborative discussions to explore strategies for assisting trafficked children. To ensure well-informed decisions regarding the victims of human trafficking, our team has established connections with psychiatrists and experts in the field. 

We express immense gratitude for the existence of online platforms, which enable us to involve experts from distant provinces in crucial meetings requiring their guidance.

Furthermore, our team recently played a vital role in coordinating efforts between a partner organization, cybercrime police, and government social workers. This collaboration was essential in implementing protective measures for 20 victims of online sexual exploitation and identifying survivors of human trafficking.
