Gender-based violence (GBV) is a silent crisis in Nigeria, particularly for women and girls with disabilities. In underserved regions like Guma, Benue State, these individuals often face heightened risks due to poverty, discrimination, and the aftermath of conflict, as they are often forgotten. According to Nigeria’s 2018 Demographic and Health Survey, one in five women aged 15–49 has experienced physical or sexual violence, with disability compounding the risk and the stigma.
Education is a powerful tool for prevention and empowerment. Our project aims to provide comprehensive rights education, legal support, and survivor advocacy for 50 women and girls with disabilities. By equipping them with knowledge about their rights and available support services, we help them break free from cycles of abuse.
Community involvement is key: we engage local leaders, train community advocates, and raise public awareness to shift harmful norms that perpetuate violence and exclusion. These activities create a ripple effect, encouraging a culture of respect and protection for all women and girls, regardless of ability.
Your donation directly funds safe spaces, psychosocial support, legal referrals, and skills development, helping survivors regain confidence and independence. It also supports the training of local advocates who will continue awareness and referral activities beyond the life of the project.
Together, we can disrupt the narrative of silence and vulnerability. Your generosity creates safe environments where women and girls with disabilities are valued and protected and where the entire community takes a stand against GBV. Every contribution is an investment in dignity, freedom, and justice—for today, and for the generations to come.
