Adolescent girls in Cote d'Ivoire often miss several days of school each month because menstruation is stigmatized and the girls lack effective menstrual products. This project will break this cycle by equipping girls at the KSP and nearby middle schools with reusable menstrual hygiene kits and delivering menstrual and reproductive education. The girls will be able to remain in school each month without stigma, embarrassment, or missed class time.
For many girls in Cote d'Ivoire, adolescence brings a monthly disruption to their education. Without reliable menstrual supplies or clear information about their changing bodies, girls often stay home from school during their periods. Missing several days of class each month can cause girls to fall behind academically and lose confidence. Menstruation is a normal part of growing up-but without education, supplies, and support, it becomes a barrier to consistent school attendance.
This project will equip adolescent girls at the Karat School and nearby partner schools with reusable menstrual hygiene kits and provide menstrual and reproductive health education in their school communities. Trained educators will lead school-based sessions that give girls accurate information while reducing stigma among students and teachers. By combining practical supplies with culturally sensitive education, the girls will gain the tools and confidence they need to thrive.
Research consistently shows that girls who remain in school through adolescence are more likely to complete secondary education, delay early marriage, and increase their lifetime earning potential. By normalizing menstrual health education within the local culture and providing reusable supplies that last for multiple years, this project promotes self-confidence and protects girls' academic progress during a critical stage of development.
