Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have already supported the Protect Minors from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation project. Your generosity shows concern for children who face serious risks in their communities. However, the donations received so far are not sufficient to begin full implementation. More support is needed to launch the planned activities.
Across Nigeria, many minors experience sexual abuse but have no safe or confidential way to report it. Fear, stigma, and lack of trusted reporting channels prevent children from speaking out. In some cases, abuse goes unpunished because families and schools do not know where to seek help. Survivors may not receive medical care, counseling, or legal support.
Schools and caregivers are often not trained to recognize early warning signs. Without proper guidance, cases may be ignored or handled incorrectly. This leaves children vulnerable and without protection.
This project will provide school-based prevention sessions and safe reporting pathways for 1,000 minors in high-risk communities. One hundred teachers and caregivers will receive training to identify signs of abuse and respond appropriately. Printed guides and visual materials will be distributed in local languages to support awareness efforts. Children will participate in age-appropriate discussions about personal safety, boundaries, and how to seek help.
Referral services will be established to connect survivors to medical care, counseling, and legal assistance where necessary. Clear reporting materials will be placed in schools and community centers to make access to help more visible and safer.
With proper awareness and support systems, children can report abuse earlier and receive timely assistance. Schools and caregivers will be better prepared to respond responsibly.
While we appreciate the support already received, additional funding is required to begin this child protection effort. We kindly invite more donors to help protect vulnerable minors and strengthen safety systems within communities.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
