I am delighted to share our latest update on our marine conservation work with the Mama Karangas in Kenya, which is locally led by our project partner, Oceans Alive.
The Mama Karangas - women fishmongers who are vital to local economies are continuing to enhance local lives and livelihoods, whilst protecting the ocean.
Thanks to donor support, 600 households have now received essential fish processing equipment, improving food safety and strengthening livelihoods.
To supplement income when selling fish isn’t possible, the Mama Karangas are also tackling plastic pollution, turning plastic beach waste into an opportunity through recycling and upcycling. By doing so, they’re protecting marine life, restoring biodiversity, and creating a new source of sustainable income.
Through your ongoing support Pelorus Foundation is now providing the Mama Karangas with additional support to:
"We see so much we can do for our life, our health, and our wealth. We are hungry to learn and improve." Amina, Chair of the Kuruwitu women’s group
Thanks to people like you, the Mama Karangas are starting to transform their community, helping to safeguard their local Kenyan coastline for future generations.
Thank you for your continued support. We can’t do what we do without you.
