Summary

USAID Funding cuts have disrupted adolescent health services in rural Uganda, leaving vulnerable girls without menstrual hygiene supplies and reproductive health education. The Girl Child Foundation Uganda will support 800 rural girls in Tororo District with reusable menstrual kits, health education, and peer mentorship. This project will reduce school absenteeism, prevent early pregnancy, and strengthen girls' confidence and dignity so they can stay in school and build brighter futures.

Challenge

Many rural girls miss school every month due to lack of menstrual hygiene supplies. Poverty, stigma, and limited reproductive health education increase risks of teenage pregnancy, school dropout, and untreated infections. USAID funding cuts have reduced support for adolescent outreach and youth-friendly services, leaving schools and communities with fewer resources to guide and protect girls. Vulnerable girls face interrupted education and long-term economic hardship.

Solution

Implement a school- and community-based adolescent health program targeting 800 rural girls in Tororo. The project will: Distribute reusable menstrual hygiene kits to vulnerable girls, provide sexual and reproductive health education sessions, train peer mentors to promote ongoing awareness, engage parents and teachers to reduce stigma, link girls to youth-friendly health services. By combining practical support with education and mentorship, ensure girls stay healthy, confident, and in school.

Long-Term Impact

This project will improve school attendance, confidence, and health knowledge among rural girls. Girls will better understand menstrual hygiene and reproductive health, reducing stigma and misinformation. Parents and teachers will become more supportive of girls' needs, creating safer school environments. Over time, improved health and continued education will reduce early pregnancy, increase secondary school completion, and strengthen the economic future of families in Tororo District.
