Jean
Jean was only 14 when she arrived at the CAMELEON center in 2017 as a survivor of sexual abuse. She dreams of becoming a social worker to help and work with the children in need, in return. Like Jean, 133 other girl survivors of sexual abuse aged 5 to 24 are currently sheltered, rehabilitated and protected by CAMELEON. They are provided with medical care, educational assistance, various psycho-social interventions and legal support for years towards their healing, recovery, independence and empowerment.
Rinkay
Rinkay was 7 years old when she entered CAMELEON after being sexually abused by her father. 14 years later, her fellow CAMELEON girls look up to her as a reliable big sister. She is currently known for being a thriving nursing student - hardworking and responsible. Carrying herself with a calm and assured stance, gone is the girl who had to fight her traumatic memories and nightmarish flashbacks.
Andrea
“Staying here in CAMELEON changed my perspective on life. I learned to love myself and to give myself time. I used to be more affected by what others thought compared to how I genuinely felt. Before I came to CAMELEON, I was too selfless to the point I didn’t know what self-love meant. But now, every time I look in the mirror, I can see the new version of myself. I cherish being in CAMELEON because it helped me discover what are my capabilities and how to value the people around me. Here, I can dance, do circus, and do sports, which helped me to become more productive. I do things which used to be impossible for me. I can say I am proud of what I have now.”
CAMELEON offers the opportunity to help girls like them to continue their journey of healing and empowerment with sponsorship, financing their education and exchanging letters with them. It consists in a long term and individual sponsorship, to offer a chance for a girl survivor of sexual abuse to heal and build herself a future. We are now looking for 55 new sponsors to accompany the new girls who will be sheltered at our 3 centers as well as the underprivileged children we accompany in the surrounding villages.
