Dear Friends,
CAMELEON Association helps young girls in Philippines recover from sexual abuse by giving them protection, care, and support for a better future. We are happy to send you some fresh news from our reconstruction centers in the Philippines. Over the past 3 months, the girls have taken part in many meaningful activities that help them heal, grow, and prepare for the future.
Therapy, Creativity, and Self-Discovery
Therapeutic activities keep playing an essential role in the girls’ reconstruction.
In Iloilo, they took part in animal-assisted therapy (AAT) sessions with trained dogs, focusing on exploring notions like consent, boundaries, and respect. These sessions createsafespaces to express emotions and reflect on personal boundaries.
They also joined creative workshops like sewing, gardening, painting, and making hand-designed tote bags, discovering new talents while working together.
In Negros, group sessions on detachment and self-love helped the girls let go of emotional weights and grow their self-esteem.
Legal Support and School Progress
Several court hearings were attended with the help of our team. Staff always stay in close contact with local authorities to protect the girls and make sure their rights are respected at all times. For instance, a girl was afraid of encountering her alleged perpetrator at school, but the social workers contacted the local authorities to ensure her safety.
At school, the students are making progress. Regular visits were made to follow up on academic performance. In both centers, some girls were congratulated for their efforts. In Aftercare in Negros, one girl has been recognized as an honor student, and in Iloilo, several are nearing graduation from senior high school and college.
Building a future with family support
During the last three months, parenting workshops have been organized in both regions. Families shared and learned how to better support their daughters in the long term. We also carried out home visits to prepare for this next step, especially for girls who are ready to return to their communities.
In Iloilo, even remote island families could be reached, with the help of a speedboat kindly offered by local partners.
What’s next?
In the coming months, we’ll continue to focus on education, emotional well-being, and future careers. We are also working to improve psyche sessions and Therapy Camp. Thanks to your support, we’re seeing real progress, little by little, the girls are gaining more confidence and new life skills. Your generosity makes all this possible, thank you for being part of their transformation.
