Dear Donor,
At Uganda Wildlife Society (UWS), we believe that lasting environmental conservation begins with empowered communities. Through our work promoting sustainable natural resource management in the Albertine Rift, we continue to encourage rural households to become active participants in protecting the natural resources upon which their livelihoods depend.
Smallholder farmers are particularly important to conservation because their everyday decisions about farming, tree growing, grazing, and land management directly influence the health of surrounding ecosystems.
Through community training, practical demonstrations, and the provision of tree seedlings, UWS is helping households understand how to integrate sustainable practices into their daily activities. These interventions encourage farmers to conserve trees, improve land management, restore degraded areas, and explore opportunities to diversify their livelihoods.
Our approach recognizes that conservation is most effective when communities understand its benefits and have the knowledge and resources to participate. By working directly with households, we are building local ownership and encouraging environmental responsibility beyond the duration of individual projects.
We are grateful to our development partners, including the Ecosystems Alliance Project, for supporting community-centered conservation efforts.
Every household that adopts sustainable practices becomes a potential champion for nature. Together, we are building communities that protect their environment while strengthening their livelihoods.
Thank you for investing in community-led conservation in Uganda.
