Dear Donor,
Planting trees is an important step toward restoring degraded landscapes, but ensuring that those trees survive requires knowledge, commitment, and continued care.
Uganda Wildlife Society recognizes that communities need practical information and skills to manage trees successfully. This is why environmental education and technical knowledge sharing form an important part of its restoration work.
In Mayuge District, UWS developed, printed, and distributed a technical extension manual on tree management to beneficiary communities. The manual provides a resource for sharing information about tree management and supporting wider environmental outreach across the district and surrounding region.
The Society also conducted three radio talk shows focusing on the technical aspects of tree growing and the importance of environmental management. These broadcasts helped extend conservation messages beyond direct project beneficiaries and created opportunities to communicate the value of sustainable tree management to a wider audience.
This combination of written guidance and radio outreach demonstrates the importance of making conservation knowledge accessible through different channels.
Practical information can help communities understand why seedlings require protection, why appropriate tree species matter, and how responsible management contributes to restoration success. Wider public awareness can also encourage households, schools, and community groups to participate in environmental protection.
UWS has additionally documented project lessons and used them in policy and dialogue forums at district and national levels to advocate for sustainable land use and the protection of Lake Victoria's biodiversity and habitat resources.
We are grateful to the American Embassy through the Self-Help Ambassador Support for supporting this work.
Restoration becomes more sustainable when communities have both the trees and the knowledge needed to care for them.
Thank you for investing in environmental education, practical conservation knowledge, and healthier ecosystems.
