Tororo Rock: Restoring a Natural Landscape

By Priscilla Nyadoi | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Natural habitats are important for biodiversity, soil protection, and the ecological health of surrounding communities. When these habitats become degraded, restoration requires practical action and a commitment to protecting vegetation over the long term.

In Tororo District, Eastern Uganda, 6,000 tree seedlings were planted in degraded parts of the Tororo Rock Habitat Ecosystem as part of efforts to restore vegetation and support environmental conservation.

This intervention represents an important contribution to recovering degraded areas and encouraging greater attention to the protection of the Tororo Rock landscape.

Appropriate tree planting can help improve vegetation cover, stabilize soils, store carbon, and create habitat conditions that support biodiversity. The scale of these benefits will depend on seedling survival, species suitability, and how well the trees are maintained over time.

UWS has also supported capacity building for youth and women in Tororo. With support from the Global Greengrants Fund, 100 individuals received training in tree nursery establishment, tree planting, and tree management.

These complementary activities connect practical restoration with the development of local skills. Knowledge of seedling propagation and tree care can help community members contribute to future restoration activities and share conservation practices with others.

The next important step is to protect planted seedlings, monitor their growth, and address threats that could reduce survival.

We appreciate the supporters and community members contributing to restoration and environmental awareness in Tororo.

Every well-established tree is a step toward a healthier landscape. Together, we are supporting the recovery of Tororo Rock's degraded habitats and encouraging community stewardship of nature.

Thank you for supporting conservation in Eastern Uganda.
