This shy and fascinating creature is in desperate peril in Uganda and beyond, as the illegal trade in pangolins sadly continues to grow.
Your support is helping the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation to fund a new Pangolin Protection Programme in Uganda, which trains and equips rescue and enforcement staff on the ground.
With your help DSWF is also working to reduce the demand for pangolins and pangolin meat and scales in Asia – particularly Vietnam and China, the two largest consuming nations.
We hope this global work to educate and build awareness of the poaching crisis, debunk the false medicinal value of pangolin scales and strengthen enforcement efforts, will support the conservation of Uganda’s precious pangolins.
DSWF is also working in Uganda on the future development of DNA mapping, a national seizure database and a community-run rescue and rehabilitation centre.
Uganda is in the unique position of potentially being home to all four of the pangolin species native to Africa. But there is a significant knowledge gap across the whole country and very little is known about their geographical distribution, ecology or behaviour.
Your vital support helps DSWF continue our fight to protect pangolins – thank you for engaging with our work and caring about this wonderful scaly mammal!
Look out for our future updates about how YOUR donations are helping to save this iconic species.
