Often times, it is not only a spouse and children that are abused in domestic violence situations, but also pets. Pets are often abused and used to manipulate a victim from leaving an abusive household. AODVC provides international danger to safety relocations for pets so that they can leave the abusive situation with mom and kids and live a life free from violence.
Domestic violence affects everyone in the household, including pets. In many cases, animal abuse is common in households exposed to domestic violence. Pets are often used to manipulate a victim of abuse from leaving a domestic violence situation, especially in the American overseas community. Abusers threaten to hurt the pet if the victim ever leaves. Victims and children have a more difficult time adjusting to a new life if their furry companion was left behind with the abuser.
This project will allow AODVC to provide danger to safety relocations for the pets when they are conducting one for the victim and children. The relocations include international flights, shelter stay, and other logistics of sending a pet across international borders.
This project will reduce animal abuse and help families thrive when rebuilding a healthy life away from domestic violence.
