DSWF has long been a supporter of alternative livelihood programmes for wildlife and environmental conservation, encouraging local sustainability as a result of healthy conservation mind-sets.
We are delighted to share with you some of the successes being recorded in Mongolia with our partners the Snow Leopard Trust (SLT). SLT are world conservation leaders in establishing and implementing community based insurance and micro-financing schemes for the protection of Snow Leopards and their habitats.
Last year, over 207 households were engaged alongside successful training interventions hosted for 87 women in South Gobi through their handicraft social enterprise programmes, taking the total to over 400 women now involved in enterprise empowerment schemes!
The SLT livestock insurance programme also saw huge successes with a total of 52 households engaging an over 10,260 individual livestock animals insured against snow leopard predation. As a result of the successful programme, other remote rural areas have now reached out seeking greater collaboration which we hope to implement, with your support, in 2018!
Thank you!
