As we draw to the end of 2025 and thanks to the GlobalGiving community, our field partners in Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan are delivering real impact for snow leopards and mountain communities.
In Mongolia, the team collared three new snow leopards and discovered five healthy cubs, providing vital data to guide conservation strategies. Ninety-three camera traps are now monitoring remote habitats, helping the team understand population trends.
Community programs are reducing conflict and creating sustainable livelihoods: 130 children attended eco-camps, 117 women participated in Snow Leopard Enterprises, and over 10,000 handicraft products were sold, generating approximately £8,700 in income for families. Educational outreach through the Nomadic Trunk Program has already reached 13 households in remote areas. This program is an innovative conservation project bringing communities closer to nature. These trunks serve as portable libraries, filled with books, games and educational guides for all ages.
In Kyrgyzstan, conservation starts with education. Our field partners reached 388 children and 23 schools with environmental learning materials, hosted 80 students at immersive eco-camps, and engaged 342 youth through WhatsApp activities. The teams provided teachers in remote mountain areas with the tools to support and teach environmental education to inspire children to help protect snow leopards and other wildlife.
Conservation was also strengthened by increasing snow leopard camera traps in the Kyrgyz Khrebet Mountains to help provide the first systematic population data for this region. These efforts empower communities to become guardians of their ecosystems while safeguarding one of the world’s most elusive big cats.
Your continued support ensures that every collar fitted, every child inspired, and every camera trap deployed brings us closer to a future where snow leopards thrive alongside resilient mountain communities.
