DSWF continue to fund ground-based conservation partners that focus on tiger conservation in Asia which includes:
- Supporting tigers in the Assam Region of India through intelligence gathering, education programmes, park protection and capacity building.
- Funding a Rapid Action Project which recognises that wildlife in India is impacted by innumerable threats that require urgent responses for areas such as human wildlife conflict mitigation, habitat protection, community engagement and awareness for conservation and Anti-poaching support to mitigate illegal wildlife trade and species conservation.
- Supporting a stable Amur tiger population in the Russian Far East by improving anti-poaching efforts and tiger habitat protection
In the past year DSWF and conservation partners have been thrilled to see local communities coexisting with wildlife which is vital to the fight against extinction, none more so than the Village Defence Force (VDF). Made up of over 180 groups, our ground-based conservation partners in India developed the VDF as a way to bring communities together, whilst instilling a sense of positivity and concern for wildlife. Through patrols and monitoring, each group is able to support the protection of wildlife in vital habitats across Assam.

Protecting Tigers - January 2021 Update

Thank you for choosing to protect tigers in their natural habitat. You are helping our ground-based conservation partners across Asia adapt to the new challenges they are facing because of the pandemic.
COVID-19 has left a lot of people unemployed, meaning that struggling communities who live in tiger habitats, may be tempted to the forest for easy prey.
In this regard, rangers continued to patrol in an enhanced mode. In just six months, 176 violations were revealed at five project sites, including trespassing and illegal hunting.
Thanks to your support, we have been able to maintain anti-poaching efforts. Intense patrols by law enforcement teams discouraged poachers from illegal access to national parks and nature reserves, and that has prevented a spike in illegal hunting.

Protecting Tigers - October 2020 Update

Thank you for supporting DSWF by donating to our tiger projects.
Amongst the global uncertainty brought about by Covid-19, your support has never been more important as conservation projects grapple to deal with limited resources, reduced tourism and increasing levels of poaching. Despite the devastating impacts of Covid-19 on conservation efforts, DSWF have pledged to maintain full levels of support across our whole conservation portfolio. This will stretch us to our financial limits, but we have no other option!
Tigers have made the news for various different reasons this year and our Programmes and Policy Intern, Linus Hiscox, had a deeper look into Captive Tiger Management: what separates the good, the bad and the ugly?
Your donations allow DSWF's partner projects to monitor key wild tiger populations to ensure viable and safe breeding conditions in their natural habitat. Find out how else you are protecting tigers.
